Prawns are a great source of high quality protein and provide some of the most important vitamins and minerals that constitute a healthy diet. They are surprisingly low in calories and are high on healthy cholesterol. They contain almost three times more Omega 3 Fatty Acid than Omega 6 Fatty Acid – which makes them good for your heart! Foods that contain high amounts of Omega 3 are associated with reduced risk of heart attacks and lower blood pressure.
Grilling, barbecuing or flambéing prawns in their shell are some of the most popular cooking methods and so are pan- and deep frying – you can cook it the way you like. Just note that prawns don’t take much time to get cooked and that overcooking may cause the flesh to become tough and tasteless. While cooking, add them to the heat as late as possible – keep your sauce / curry ready first. Their flavour gets enhanced if marinated in olive oil, lemon juice and lashings of garlic. You can also add a dash of Australian liqueur brandy and the zest of orange for optimum tantalising taste.
